I started Marmalade Early Years Consultancy after working in Early Years for over 20 years.

Initially I taught across the primary phases before taking a SENDCO role and teaching a Reception class in school. Once I stepped foot into Early Years, I knew it was where I belonged. I love the magic, the excitement and the drama of an early years environment. I love the focus on each child as an individual and I love being able to nurture children, helping them develop effective learning strategies that they will carry with them for their entire lives.

I believe that effective early years provision is vital if children are to grow up loving education and having the confidence to lead their own learning. If a young child is interested in space and they are able to talk about their passion and are shown ways to find out more about it, it sets them up for learning as they grow through school and university.

FUN is key in the early years.

Children can learn everything through play and having fun. They need to move their bodies in order to store and recall knowledge effectively. Children need to be engaged and this happens when we spend time with them, understand what they enjoy and how they prefer to learn. I love working with practitioners, helping them to inject fun and magic into their provision.
The environment is the third teacher. Really outstanding environments draw children in and ignite their curiosity. I draw inspiration from many learning styles. The principles of the Reggio Emelia philosophy are completely inline with my own pedagogy and I use them a lot in my own work. Having taught in schools and private nursery settings, I have gone on to work as a Teaching and Learning Manager and a Regional Director of a nursery group. I am also a mum to two gorgeous boys who have attended nursery settings. My experience gives me a unique insight into every aspect of a nursery setting. This helps me to understand the different pressures experienced by management, practitioners and parents of children attending nursery. My work takes everyone’s viewpoints into consideration. I love working with people and sharing my passion and knowledge of early years education. I get so much joy when I help individuals and staff teams to develop their understanding and knowledge and feel proud of what they do. Our role as Early Years Educators so important and a confident practitioner can make a huge difference to the lives of our little people and their families.
